Frequently Asked Questions
What is Open Access?
Open Access is a relatively new publication model for scholarly journals that enables immediate, worldwide, barrier-free access to the full text of research articles for the best interests of the scientific community. All interested readers can read, download, and/or print any Open Access articles without requiring a subscription to the journal in which these articles are published. Moreover, Open Access articles are free of most copyright and licensing restrictions, allowing users to reproduce, redistribute, and reuse articles as long as they are properly cited. In an Open Access model, the costs of publication are met using an author-side payment, in the form of an Article Processing Charge, rather than through a subscription fee.
How will the SAGE-Hindawi partnership work?
The partnership will see equal ownership between the two organizations. SAGE will have sole responsibility for the editorial development, marketing, and promotion of the new journals, while Hindawi will provide the technology and expertise needed to run the publication process from the point of submission, through the peer-review process, to the point of final publication. Under the model, all SAGE-Hindawi journal articles will be made freely available online via the Hindawi platform, funded by author charges.
What areas will SAGE-Hindawi publish in?
Initially SAGE and Hindawi will launch a series of STM titles, with a view to exploring other areas, subject to further market research and demand. More information will be available later in the year.
Will the journals be peer reviewed?
The journals will all be peer-reviewed and subject to rigorous editorial standards.
Will articles be available in printed form?
No: the journals will be published online only, available for free.
What provisions is SAGE-Hindawi making to provide perpetual access to all content published as Open Access?
All content on the platform will be archived in Portico. Dependent on the subject matter, all articles published in SAGE-Hindawi journals will be automatically deposited into PubMed Central and/or any other suitable repository.
What is the SAGE-Hindawi copyright policy?
Articles will be published under a Creative Commons license and authors will retain the copyright of their work.
